Booties add an instant modern edge to any look — I think this is why I’m a bit obsessed! They breathe new life into some of my old favorites, especially my dresses where the booties can really shine. I can throw on a dress that I have worn to death — and it’s fine, fast and easy. But paired with a modern bootie, it updates the entire look and gives it the perfect current feel I was looking for.
The key? Making sure it’s worn without looking “planted” and shortening your leg line. Keep reading for top tips on making booties work!
1. Choose a pair of booties that have some sort of decorative element on the top and have a nice finished edge or interesting lines. I love these Klub Nico booties for that exact reason and not only do they have an interesting cut to them, but the heel has a nice accent to it which also draws your eye there. Say YES boots that are cut to gracefully transition from your leg to your bootie, which will both elongate and flatter your legs! These Cole Haan beauties are exactly what you need to take your outfit to the next level.
Stay away from the pairs that look like they were a regular high boots that were sawed off at the ankle! You know the ones I’m talking about! Any perfectly straight horizontal line will widen your leg and ankle, thus shortening the look of your leg, which no one wants!
2. Stay away from booties that are too chunky and too heavy, otherwise it looks like you’re wearing two planters on your feet. We don’t want the bootie to overpower the outfit, so keep the proportion in balance.
Can we just agree that this is a NO — just too much boot for most anyone!
Try something much sleeker like this — much better balance with your frame and your dresses!
3. Finally, keep your look longer and sleeker by making sure your colors consistent. Consider pairing a darker dress with black hosiery and a black bootie or dark leggings, a flowy top and black booties! This eliminates breaks and creates an elongating effect.
As the weather warms up, go with a nude leg and a pair of booties that best matches your skin tone for the same elongating effect!
Use these tips to choose a bootie that works for dresses, skirts and pants. Finding the perfect pair that will work with every outfit!
